Because I was at work making money so that I can buy a RWD car and then look down on FWD plebs.
(Disclaimer: Some FWD cars are awesome. Some suck. Some RWD cars are awesome. Some suck. Deal with it.)

And you know what...some of us could have bought a RWD car and chose the FWD anyway. When I was getting my next ride, it came down to the 328 sedan and the GTI. At the end of the day, the GTI was pretty much just as quick and handled just as well (with the Performance Pack) in everyday situations. It was also 14 grand less with similar equipment.
I don’t begrudge people for getting a BMW, they are great cars. I may decide to get one someday. Nor do I judge folks on their choice of drive wheels. That’s some dumb shit.

What’s with all the FWD hate? Not only is variety the spice of life, there are much bigger arguments in autodom than FWD or RWD.
Sorry I’m late to the argument party, I was driving my FWD hot hatch around this afternoon having fun while you were at work working for someone other than yourself. #peons

I’ve got no idea... I love my FWD sports car, but arguing over which wheels drive your car is
pretty
pointless if you ask me.

Exactly! It’s personal preference, which is why I roll my eyes whenever someone says one is better than the other.

Or maybe some people prefer a good, cheap all around car. More often than not, at least within their price bracket, the FWD choice will get better gas mileage, have more space, and be nearly as fun. Some people like fun, yet practical cars.

Yeah when you have the opinion of “This type of car is good for a particular set of circumstances depending on the driver.” That isn’t exactly a #hottake.

I went from an S13 240sx hatch, to an NA Miata with a roll cage/bar, to,…a DC Integra. I’ve owned many other vehicles since then, including FWD, 4x4 & AWD.
Of all the cars I’ve ever owned, that slow DC Integra is still the one I wish I could have back the most.
I too, don’t get the rear wheel drive elitism and FWD hate.
I love cars. Import. Domestic. Rare ones. Common ones. Old. Newer. Front wheel drive. Rear wheel drive. All wheel drive. Four wheel drive.
(/runs and hides for admitting to replacing an NA Miata with a Honda on Oppo)

Or when people lump all front wheel drive cars together into the limp-wristed, beige econobox category, or say all rear wheel drive cars drive like Mclarens.

People who disagree with this have no place here.

I definitely won’t hate on another enthusiast for choosing a FWD car, but my preference is still RWD. Definitely not of the opinion that there are no good FWD cars, though. I’d drive the hell out of a Focus ST or some such.

I disagree with some of these things. Its having an opinion. I’d argue that if you have no real opinions on cars you have no place here. Also a lot of the same people that are offended about people not liking FWD (I dont, oh well) parade manuals as the only option so there’s more than a little hipocrasy going on.

Opinions on cars are perfectly fine. I’ve got plenty. I just think that the criteria above are waaaaaaaay too far reaching to have a black and white opinion on. Someone says that there isn’t
one single
front wheel drive car they like out of however many million are out there? Either they’re lying, or they’re probably not a car person.

Well there are many cars I like other aspects of but due to them being front wheel drive I would never consider for purchase. (Toronado posted earlier, many of VWs 80s offerings, 90s cadillacs) I also completely missed the original post on FWD dislike so I’m not in disagreement about things not being black and white. Almost nothing is.

Yeah, I’m confused too. What argument? If what SuperSubaru posted was the summary of the argument, whoever started that argument was trolling. :P
I’ll even entertain the “still dumb but for the heck of it” Beetle argument. Yeah I get it the Auto Union did weird stuff. But since when did any car made that had the same drivetrain configuration as a Porsche 911 be consolidated as a 911? Have we fallen that far?

Of course a mid engined RWD sports car will be an enthusiasts dream but I'm way more impressed when a family hauler with good gas mileage is 90% of the fun or better!

By physics, FWD is almost always inferior to RWD all things being equal. FWD is just a compromised drivetrain. It's just the way it is. That being said, there are FWD cars that are better than some RWD cars. I'll probably be selling my big bad RWD daily driver and replacing it with a FWD hot hatch. I'll always have my 95 Miata for RWD goodness.
